1) You learn that shit happens. And you can easily survive it.
2) You learn that missing your flight is actually quite awesome and gives you the opportunity to explore the airport and make many foreign friends that are probably as lost as you are.
3) You learn that you can eat anything AND survive after doing it.
4) Then you learn that you’re getting too fat because you’re eating it too much.
5) You find out that YES, there are ugly people in other countries. And there are MANY of them.
6) You also find out that there are gorgeous people too. Many many many many many many many many many many gorgeous people.
7) You learn that when you’re learning a foreign language, making mistakes and looking stupid is a big part of it. A huge part, I could say.
8) You suddenly see yourself in certain situations you’ve never been before, and you learn how to deal with them like a cook deals with food. You become a dicey-situation specialist.
9) You learn slangs that you’ve never ever heard before, because they are very much inappropriate for movies or tv shows.
10) You learn that every single place is awesome in its own awesomeness. You learn that everywhere you’re gonna go you’re gonna find something pretty and special.
11) You eventually find out that everyone has something good to offer. No one came to planet Earth with no purpose and no goods. You learn to like or maybe even love the most unusual people.
12) You learn that Brazil is the only country where people love to hug everyone all the time. You kinda start missing it…
13) You get 10 more years of knowledge for your brain, and 10 less years for your body — who the hell in this world looks better or hotter than Exchange Students?
(Trust me, I’ve been an exchange student TWICE)
